Nothing is as exciting as the annual youth intake in Football Manager. Here’s your chance to see your club produce five-star newgens and potential future wonderkids without having to spend any money. It even gives you the chance to poach Juniors from the best football academies around the globe to build a team of wonderkids.

The Football Manager 2024 youth intake dates let you acquire the knowledge of when the playable nation produce newgens in Football Manager so you can scout for newgens as soon as they arrive!

What are Newgens?

As seasons pass by, players and staff all around the world will naturally age and eventually retire since they either get too old to maintain the physical level required to play football at a certain level or too old to coach. To compensate for players (or staff) retiring in Football Manager, Sports Interactive has found a way to combat this by generating new players and enroll them into the game at certain points, which coincides with the annual youth intake.

These players are what we call newgens and are easily recognized by their unique newgen faces. By using a 3D model which randomly generates hairstyles, skin colors, and facial shapes according to the typical appearance from the player’s birthplace and the continent of origin, the Football Manager newgens may look very different to the Human players. They will even get a unique newgen name, which is based upon first- and surnames mostly used within a specific nation or region that’s randomly put together, which may create some strange compositions of names.

Their starting age can be between 14 to 16 years on the day of youth intake, but can also be as old as 21. They will develop according to their potential and your guidance, just as “regular” players. Eventually, as you advance through the years to let’s say, season 2035/36, the game will be filled with only Football Manager newgens.

Here’s the same player 7 years later. With the development of Marinko Vucko, he’s now one of the most valuable players in 2031.

These newgens will live for one lifetime, just like any Human player would do, and will eventually retire after creating history on their own.

The production of newgens helps to maintain a similar database size as the one you’ve set up, as well as keeping all clubs and nations competitive as you advance further and further into the game. Perhaps, if you play long enough you might even get your own son in Football Manager!

Football Manager Regens vs Newgens? What’s the correct term?

How newgens are produced in Football Manager has changed over the years. Earlier, Football Manager used retiring player’s database information to generate youth. These players were labeled as regens.

For instance, if Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo was to retire in your save, you would soon see a younger version of the player in the game, who inherits some of their skills (e.g attributes) and traits, their exact same potential ability score, personality and positional and role suitability that would make them world-class players in the future. It became too easy to discover new wonderkids and promising talents as all you need to know was who retired when – for example by copying their unique ID – and keep a close eye to new players generated at the upcoming youth intake. Then, the youth intake was normally happening in the summer when the game generated the new season.

Now, retiring player’s current abilities, potential, attributes or personalities are not taken into account when producing new players. Instead, the game generates youth randomly with their unique personality, skills, and potential abilities – completely different than those who have just retired.

How Clubs Produce Newgens in Football Manager? | Quick Insight

The quality and quantity of Football Manager newgens are based on a number of factors. For nations, their level of reputation, youth rating and game importance are decisive factors for the number of newgens generated in a nation and how often they will generate players of a certain quality.

A nation with a higher youth rating will generate a larger pool of player’s prior to the Youth Intake with more players with a higher average current and potential abilities than a nation where fewer plays football and the youth rating level is minimal.

Youth rating and game importance are static attributes set in the database. There’s no chance to improve a nation’s youth rating or game importance.

clubs' training facilities

Then, will each club’s training facilities relating to youth be of importance! A club with State of the Art youth facilities and Exceptional Junior coaching will more likely produce newgens with a higher current and potential ability than one with minimal youth facilities. Apart from youth training facilities which influence on CA and PA score of players generated, comes each club’s youth recruitment.

A club’s youth recruitment level determines their reach of recruiting players of home and foreign origin. Put simply, it describes how wide-reach the Academy is and how large a pool of Juniors you potentially can recruit players from. It will be one of the factors for being able to poach players from further afield. It will basically determine how likely it is your club will poach Juniors along with the Reputation level. Besides that, will the level of youth recruitment and the club’s reputation determine the order of a nation’s youth intake.

For instance, a club with exceptional youth recruitment will be more likely to pick up the best Juniors within the nation first, as they will have their youth intake first. If two club’s got similar youth recruitment, then reputation comes into play.

A club lower down in the pecking order will NOT naturally generate only poor players whilst a club with a higher reputation and youth recruitment will generate only five-star players. It simply limits the chance of producing quality newgens by being behind in the pecking order.

What’s Youth Importance?

The youth importance describes how important developing youth are considered to be for the club. It ranges from 0-20 but the exact level is hidden and only visible within the editor due to realism and gameplay.

Youth importance level will be linked to the Club Vision (e.g. Develop players using the club’s youth system). Since most of the clubs with a high Youth Importance will have a vision to develop player’s from their own Academy, it increases the likeliness of the board to grant permission to upgrade their training facilities relating to youth (e.g. Junior Coaching, Youth Facilities and Youth Recruitment).

A club with a higher level of Youth Importance may have a slight impact on the Newgens it attracts, as some youth players may favorize a club who emphasize youth development.

Youth Importance has therefore no direct impact on the production of youth, the quality of the youth intake nor the Juniors quality but can be a decisive factor for minor teams who wish to improve future youth intakes by upgrading the facilities, as making board requests to upgrade the facilities may be approved more often (if club finances allows it).

The Head of Youth Development’s Influence on the Youth Intake

Likewise, the quality of the head of youth development, or the one in charge of bringing through the next generation of young players at the youth intakes, can have a massive impact on the quality of youngsters coming through the ranks and its type of players. His abilities to identify a great player by appraising the potential future levels and bring them through the ranks can’t be underestimated.

You need to consider the staff’s preferred formation, personality, media-handling style, and tactical style relevant to your preferred system and playing identity. An head of youth development with a preferred formation of 3-5-2 will naturally bring through more wide midfielders than fullbacks and wingers, but this may also relate to the historical traditions of the nation. Similarly, an head of youth development who prefers 4-2-4 will be more likely to bring through defensive midfielders and attackers as opposed to attacking midfielders.

All in all, you’ll need to consider all these factors together. Even then, it’s not a certain factor that your team will generate five-star newgens season after season simply by having the best facilities possible, it just increases the probability.

Youth Intake Preview

Around 3 months prior to when the youth intake will happen, the head of youth development will forward an inbox message about this year’s youth candidates coming through the Academy. The youth intake preview lets you get a quick overview of this year’s youth intake and the standard of the Juniors coming through.

The preview of this year’s youth intake will also be visible in the Development Centre under Youth Candidates.

The preview lets you get an insight into which positions you can expect to receive players in and whether there are players with higher current abilities or potential that looks promising.

Football Manager youth intake preview

The youth intake preview will also give you information about positions you won’t get players in or perhaps lacks the standard required to make an impact for your club in the future.

While you won’t see the player’s abilities or profile until the day of the youth intake, the Youth Candidate overview will give you a chance to decide upon a recruitment plan for the future since you get the chance to head into the transfer market to strengthen your youth team with promising talents that you will lack depth in.

Perhaps you’ll be blessed with players with the potential to become a real golden generation for the club and can eagerly anticipate youth intake day to arrive!

Youth Intake Dates Sorted by Continents & Nations

The Football Manager 2024 youth intake dates provides you with a list of when the playable nations generate Juniors in Football Manager. For a long time, I took it for granted that the youth intake was deemed to be completely random as the youth intake dates happen at different times for each saves – thorough research proved otherwise.

After holidaying until 2033 and doing so for additional saves I discovered that the youth intakes in Football Manager 2024 start at the same time for each nation. What varies are how long the youth intake lasts and depending on a club’s level of youth recruitment who will have their youth intake first.

Then, it all depends on whether the game finds it purposeful to generate Juniors within a nation and how many clubs will have their youth intake that year. For some smaller nations, the youth intake may only last a day or two, while others will last approximately a month. A playable nation with more active divisions will take a longer time to generate youth than a smaller nation of less Game Importance.

About the Dates

You will experience that nation’s may not have a youth intake at all. This is when countries do not have newgen dates due to the game not finding it useful enough to generate them. Not me being lazy. This is common in the smaller nations as the clubs do not ‘exist’ in the game, for example, if they are not active. This may just have happened on my save, and could be different on yours.

The youth intakes of 2023, 2027 & 2031 will change with (1) day, meaning the youth intake might be March 15th for 2023 and then March 14th for 2024.*

* According to FM23

You will also notice that inactive nations will have a fixed youth intake date as well – the same date from save to save, season to season.

How to take advantage of the youth intake dates?

To help you see the order of clubs who will have their youth intake first I’ve listed the clubs with the highest youth recruitment according to the sorting within the editor. As you advance in the future, the clubs may improve their reputation and upgrade their youth recruitment which may move clubs up or down the ranking.

It can be used to create reminders of visiting specific clubs’ youth teams in order to try poaching Juniors from teams around you or to know when to assign scouts out on missions to track down youngsters and future wonderkids.

For instance, a great approach is to set up scouting assignments to Central Europe prior to March as most of the European nations have youth intake from the beginning of March to the end of April. Similarly, most of the clubs in the continent of America will have youth intakes between September and November.

The whole point of this article is actually not about the exact dates but really by giving you the exact time at the year to set up scouting assignments for each nation in order to spot the newgens coming through.

Different types of youth intakes

Do remember that all clubs will have their youth intake starting from January 2024. Only the lower leagues of Sweden may produce Juniors on Christmas Day 2023 (25.12.2023). Which nations will produce newgens and the quantity of the youth intake will depend on the playable nations you select and their neighboring countries.

In fact, there are two types of youth intakes in Football Manager. The ordinary one which this article depicts and a second one where the game itself adds players to lower-league teams since the game felt it necessary to generate more players. Most often, the age of these players is above their 30s.

This kind of intakes may happen in every country and they take place at the beginning of each countries season (when fixtures are released).

As the youth intake will be very unpredictable, you will discover the importance of sending scouts to all regions of the world, in order to track down the new Football Manager wonderkids and talents.
